In business, you must be accommodating and keep your customers always in mind and sometimes this personal touch interferes with rational thinking. You make an exception here and another one there, and before you know it, your rational thinking about what’s best for your business is tattered. In order to get in line with this thinking, you must somehow learn to think like a customer. Put yourself in their shoes. Ask yourself, if I were in their shoes would I buy from me? Be truthful here and keep your mind open and wait for the surprising answers that will be forthcoming. No matter how much you desire your business to be in the location you want it to be in, or selling what you think should be sold, if you’ve not carefully planned every detail, it will most likely fail. Rational thinking will put you in the right place at the right time and selling to the community, or to the world, what it needs. “It adds an element of calculation and planning to a stream of thoughts rather than basing them on emotion or personal opinion.” That sounds simple, but rational thinking often gets diluted with wants, wishes, desires and availability. Rational thinking is logical thinking. It’s thinking that makes sense, and applied to business will add dollars and as well as advance your business skills. Whether it’s pursuing a partnership, deciding upon a franchise or a sole partnership as opposed to incorporating, it’s a good idea to think, is this rational? Look no further than today’s downsized economy as proof that the world of business as it now stands is not rational. Too many irrational decisions and too many hasty deals have been made. Therefore it’s reasonable to assume that were more business leaders rational in their thinking, business would be better. That applies likewise to consumers. In business, thinking rationally has to with dollars and cents. Business leaders must have realistic expectations and their theories or ideas relative to the process of their business must be easily explained and expressed in words and thoughts that make sense to people. These need be put down paper and reviewed and looked at from every angle. They ask, will this work and if not what can replace it. Don’t go it alone but them family and their friends who are business oriented to offer their thoughts. And still better get professional advice but only from those who are well known for their sensible and well documented advice.
